Should I install the Power Generator in addition to my existing alternator, or should I replace my alternator with the Power Generator?

Except where space is at a premium, our recommended installation method, particularly for commercial installations, is one in which the Power Generator is used in addition to the vehicle's existing alternator/charging system.

MANY BENEFITS (to name just a few):

• Vehicle electrical system remains stock -- avoiding the possibility of voiding manufacturer's warranties.
• Electrical portion of installation is much simpler (just 2 wires to hook up).
• Using the welder is less complicated. Just hook up leads and weld.
• Batteries are charged while welding (otherwise, welding must stop every 30 minutes or so to recharge batteries).
• Lower engine speed for welding (about 10-15% less).
• Most "in addition to alternator" installations are no more complicated that those which replace the existing alternator with the ZENA welding power generator.
• (With extra wiring and parts) Can be used as a backup alternator for emergency use.
